22 Jump Street stars Channing
Tatum and Jillian Bell are reteaming for Disney's Splash, the studio's upcoming
updated remake of Ron Howard's 1984 fish out of water romantic comedy starring Daryl
Hannah and Tom Hanks in the lead roles.
In the 1984 movie, Hanks
played a man who as a young boy was saved from drowning by a mermaid (Hannah),
who returns 20 years later to give the boy she once saved the opportunity to
live with her under the sea.
The film, which Howard will
produce with Brian Glazer, will gender revert the roles of the first movie and
see Tatum play the mermaid and Bell the human.
Disney is currently looking
for a director to helm the project, which counts with a script by Marja-Lewis
Ryan, who will next be directing 6 Balloons for Netflix.
Tatum's next project to see
the light of day will be Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Golden Circle, while
Bell will soon be seen in Office Christmas Party.
