Paramount Pictures'
planned Friday the 13th reboot has taken an important step forward with the
studio having started negotiations with director Breck Eisner.
According to
Deadline, Paramount and Eisner are in talks for the director to take on the
helm of the first installment in the new Friday the 13th film series, which the
studio hopes they will be able to open in theaters sometime next year.
Though short,
Eisner's feature film history is surprisingly mixed, with the action comedy
Sahara, the horror thriller The Crazies, and the Vin Diesel fantasy action
adventure The Last Witch Hunter being the only theatrical releases under his
belt, so make of it what you will.
It's unclear why the
studio opted to go with Eisner since apparently Alexandre Aja ("The Hills
Have Eyes," "Mirrors," "Horns") was also being
considered for the job, but it could very well have to do with the director's Hollywood
pedigree since his father Michael was CEO and President of Paramount at the time
of the release of Sean S. Cunningham's original slasher film in 1980 and subsequent
three sequels.
