With filming likely to begin
sometime later this year or early the next one to meet the February 23, 2018
release date, word has come out that Charlie Hunnam will not reprise his role
in the upcoming Pacific Rim sequel.
Speaking to Yahoo! Movies at Comic-Con,
Hunnam confirmed that due to a scheduling conflict he will not be returning to
the franchise and reprising his role as Jaeger co-pilot Raleigh Beckett, however,
he is excited that it is being made.
With Hunnam out and Star Wars:
The Force Awakens star John Boyega set to lead the film as the son of Idris
Elba's character Stacker Pentecost, I wonder if anyone from the first film is
returning, or if Pacific Rim 2 will be more of a soft reboot and less of a
sequel.
Daredevil showrunner Steven S.
DeKnight is directing from a script by Jurassic World screenwriter Derek
Connolly.
