Oscar nominated actress Ellen Page has signed on to
star in The Third Wave, a post-zombie apocalypse horror thriller mixed with social
commentary from writer/director David Freyne.
Taking place after the cure for the virus that turned
humans into zombie-like creatures has been found, The Third Wave centers on
those who used to be infected and have now become pariahs by society and their
respective families, leading to social unrest and confrontational government intervention.
"The Third Wave brings an entire new perspective to
the zombie genre, which I love," said Page. "David Freyne truly
shifts his lens on society's role in the apocalyptic world. I'm so grateful for
this opportunity to share his thoughtful approach to horror with
audiences."
The Third Wave is Freyne's follow-up to a 2014 short
he wrote and directed called The First Wave, as well as his feature film
directorial debut.
Also starring in The Third Wave is In the Heart of the
Sea and Burnt actor Sam Keeley.
The
actress will produce the project along with Rachel O'Kane, Rory Dungan, Mark
Huffam, Aidan Elliott, Mathieu Robinet, and David Grumbach.
The Third
Wave will begin filming in Ireland later this year.
Page
has a couple of projects in the pipeline including two feature film animations titled
Window Horses and Robodog, as well as the drama Lioness from director Reed
Morano ("Meadowland"), and the Flatliners remake.
