AT&T's
Audience Network has given a 10-episode straight-to-series order to David E.
Kelley's ("Boston Legal") adaptation of Stephen King's Mr. Mercedes.
Starring
Brendan Gleeson ("Braveheart," "In Bruges") and Anton
Yelchin ("Star Trek," "Star Trek Into Darkness"), Mr.
Mercedes is a crime thriller centered on the cat and mouse game between retired
police detective Bill Hodges (Gleeson) and demented killer Brady Hartsfield (Yelchin)
who teases the former police officer with a series of vivid letters and emails, forcing
the ex-cop to go on a private and perhaps criminal mission to put the
killer behind bars before he kills again.
Published in
2014, the award-winning New York Times best-seller is the first in a trilogy.
The second novel, Finders Keepers was published in 2015, and third, End of
Watch, is due June 7.
Kelley and
Jack Bender ("Lost," "Under the Dome") will executive
produce the series with the former also writing the first episode and acting as
showrunner, and the latter directing it.
Produced by
Sonar Entertainment, Mr. Mercedes will premiere in 2018 on AT&T's DirecTV
and AT&T Uverse.
