Blues Brothers Animated Series In The Works

From a Saturday Night Live sketch, to a musical group, to a movie, to an animated primetime animated series, the Blues Brothers are back!

Bento Box Entertainment ("Bob's Burgers") is producing an animated Blues Brothers series with original Blue Brother Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi's widow Judy Belushi, and former SNL writer Anne Beatts, whom will be executive producing the series and sharing co-creator credit.

The Blues Brothers first song dates back to 1976 in a musical sketch on SNL starring Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, who released their first full-length album a few years later in 1978, and followed it with a feature film in 1980 starring Aykroyd and Belushi in their original roles as Elwood and Jake Blues, respectively. Despite Belushi's death just two years later in 1982, the Blues Brothers continued to perform with a variety of guest musicians. In 1998, John Goodman joined Aykroyd in another Blues' movie titled Blues Brothers 2000.

"It's so great to accelerate Jake and Elwood at digital speed into the 21st Century via the outstanding creative group at Bento Box," said Aykroyd. "The show will be the Blues Brothers living in America and utilizing all new technology to make and promote their own records, seek out and record new artists and avoid law enforcement – and all while fighting for truth, justice and a better breakfast sandwich."

The new series sees Jake and Elwood taking their act on the road as they travel to Chicago. The show, which is being targeted at young adults, will also feature several other characters from within the blues band, as well as Soul, Blues, and R&B score and soundtrack for each of the episodes to be performed by the Blues Brothers, and special guests that will include new artists, superstars, and "treasured Blues legends."
