Dutch actress Sylvia Hoeks has landed a lead role
opposite Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, and Ana de
Armas in Denis Villeneuve's upcoming Blade Runner sequel.
"Sylvia is a
radiant talent, a tremendous actress with great appeal in a wide variety of
roles. Her addition to this vastly accomplished international cast is a perfect
fit," said producers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove in a statement.
Hoeks has appeared in various films and TV shows in
her native country such as Duska, The Storm, Overspel, and Tirza, which was the
official Dutch entry for Best Foreign Language film in 2010. The actress also
starred opposite Geoffrey Rush in Giuseppe Tornatore's The Best Offer in 2013,
and will next be seen starring alongside Sullivan Stapleton and J.K. Simmons in
the action-thriller, The Lake.
Written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, based on
an original story by Fancher and Ridley Scott, Blade Runner 2 is set several
decades after the 1982 original film, and succeeds the initial story by Fancher
and David Peoples based on Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.
Blade Runner 2 reunites Villeneuve with his
multi-Oscar nominated cinematographer Roger Deakins ("Sicario", "Prisoners").
Blade Runner 2 opens in theaters on October 7, 2017.
