Between San Andreas 2, Fast & Furious 8, Shazam!, Rampage, the animated
Moana, and Baywatch, which he is currently filming, Dwayne Johnson schedule is
packed with quite a few leading roles, but if Iron Man 3 and Kiss Kiss Bang
Bang filmmaker Shane Black has his way, the actor will pile up another project
the list.
In the not so distant past of 2013, Black signed on to write and direct an
adaptation of the 1930s pulp action adventure comic Doc Savage for Sony Pictures.
The story follows the adventures of a character who in a way is a precursor to
the MacGyver character. He is a physician, surgeon, scientist, explorer,
inventor, musician, a master of disguise with photographic memory, and he can
throw a punch or two.
At the time the writer/director expressed his desire to maintain the '30s
setting, but since then we haven't heard much about the project, until now.
Speaking to Thrillist, Black revealed that wishes to start making the movie
sometime next year with Johnson as the lead character.
"Doc Savage is
sort of in the ether now," Black said. "We’re hoping to make it
sometime next year. I would very much like to do Doc with a
fellow named Dwayne Johnson if we can make that work. I made a decision that
Dwayne is the guy. It’s on the back burner while he’s busy."
Johnson's name isn't the only name that has been
thrown out there as a possible contender for the role. A few years ago, in
2014, Chris Hemsworth's name was also mentioned but nothing came out of it.
Meanwhile, Black has a new movie coming out called The Nice Guys starring
Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, a trailer for which you can watch here.
