Even with a shared star, the xXx franchise never took
off in the same way as some of Vin Diesel's other movie series, mainly the Fast
& Furious but also Riddick, so it was a surprise when the actor announced his
return to the character fourteen years after the fact.
The 2002s xXx grossed over $200 million worldwide,
while the sequel, xXx: State of the Union starring Ice Cube and not Diesel,
went on to gross just over $70 million. The downturn in box-office success
would have been enough to bury the franchise for good, but Diesel's newfound
success with the Fast & Furious franchise and Marvel's Guardians of the
Galaxy may have convinced Paramount Pictures to distribute Diesel's pet
project, which is flying under his One Race Films banner, as well as Revolution
Studios and Roth Kirschenbaum Films.
The third explosive chapter of the blockbuster

government operative Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) coming out of self-imposed exile
and on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang and his team in
a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as
