Emmy and Golden Globe
winning actor Jimmy Smits (Sons of Anarchy) has joined fellow actors Corey Hawkins,
Miranda Otto, Anna Diop, and Teddy Sears in the pilot for Fox's 24: Legacy, a
reboot of the franchise with all-new characters and cast.
Smits will play John
Donovan, "a powerful U.S. Senator with higher political aspirations" who is
married with Rebecca Ingram (Otto), the former head of the CTU.
24: Legacy follows Eric Carter
(Hawkins), a strong and smart Army Ranger, whose past in the military
forces him to jump back into action and seek help from the Counter Terrorist
Unit to try to prevent an attack on American soil.
Original 24 scribes Manny Coto and Evan Katz are
penning the new show, with Stephen Hopkins, who helmed the pilot of the
original series, directing.
Smits credits also include roles in the Star Wars
franchise, NYPD Blue, Dexter, and The West Wing.
