It would
seem that the sequel to Terminator Genisys isn't coming after all. Shocker I know
right!
According
to Exhibitor Relations, Paramount Pictures has decided to drop the Terminator Genisys
sequel from their release schedule, but it's unclear whether the decision is temporary,
permanent, and what it means for the third movie in the new trilogy, which has
far as we know is still set to hit theaters on June 29, 2018.
The
news isn't a total surprise considering the poor box-office performance, and
poorer critical and fan reception, but even so Skydance's Media Chief Creative
Officer Dana Goldberg assured last year that the franchise wasn't on hold like
so many news outlets claimed it was, but being re-adjusted. Same thing
different words. Goldberg also said that they were going to conduct a Worldwide
study to determine what worked and what didn't work in Genisys so that the next
step would be the right one.
So
either they are actually going forward with the study and that's why the Genisys
sequel was scraped from the schedule, or this was all smoke and they decided
not to proceed with the franchise and hopped no one would notice.
Terminator Genisys managed to gross $440 million worldwide, but only $89 million and change in the United States.
