Do we need a Top Gun
sequel? I don't know, but it's either now while we still remember who Maverick
is or never.
Top Gun 2 is one of
those projects that comes, makes some headlines, and quickly goes away, and
this past Tuesday, producer Jerry Bruckheimer decided to once again rekindle
the public interest for the sequel to the 1986 movie with a Tweet saying that
he and Tom Cruise (Maverick) have spoken about the movie.

While Bruckheimer's
tweet isn't much to go on, at least it confirms that there is still an interest
in making the movie, which according to Skydance CEO David Ellison, will mark
the end of an era of dogfighting and fighter pilots, and explore drone
technology and fifth generation fighters.
Most recently, Val
Kilmer, who played Iceman in the original movie, said that he accepted the offer
to reprise his role even though he hasn't read the script.
The bigger question
is Cruise's schedule really. The actor recently wrapped up Doug Liman's crime
thriller Mena, he is currently working on Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, after
which he will jump into Mission: Impossible 6, and he was recently cast in The Mummy. Furthermore, Cruise has also expressed his intention of reteaming with
Liman and Emily Blunt for an Edge of Tomorrow sequel.
