BBC America has
acquired the rights to adapt Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, a comedic
detective novel written by Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas
Adams.
The network has
placed Max Landis (Chronicle) in charge of writing the 8-episode series, which
will see the titular detective's "search
for a missing cat uncover a ghost, a time traveler, AND the devastating secret
of humankind! Detective Gently's bill for saving the human race from
extinction: NO CHARGE!"
"Dirk
Gently is a very original series, fresh and unlike anything
else," BBC America president Sarah Barnett said in a statement. "The
novels have legions of fans, and with Max Landis’ brilliant and audacious take
on this material, we are excited to bring Dirk to life for our BBCA super-fans."
IDW is currently publishing a Dirk Gently comic book
series.
