20th Century Fox has
released a new image from Justin Kurzel's Assassin Creed featuring Michael
Fassbender as Callum Lynch/Aguilar, a 15th Century Assassin, and Ariane Labed
as a yet unknown character but like Fassbender, a member of the Assassin Brotherhood.
The film is based on
Ubisoft's popular video game franchise of the same name and also stars Marion
Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and Michael K. Williams.
Speaking to
Entertainment Weekly, Fassbender, who is also a producer on the project,
revealed that he hadn't played any of the video games prior to boarding the
project, but has since.
“I’ve played it since
[being offered the job] mainly to get an idea of the physicality of the
character. We’re striving to find something special. We believe the whole
concept around it is special and want to service that the best we can. The fans
are really passionate: very specific and they expect accuracy and historical
detail. We’re really trying to capitalize and feed on and enjoy the fun
element. We’re working hard to make this something special.”
Besides Fassbender
and Cotillard, Assassin's Creed also reunites Kurzel with his Macbeth DP. Adam
Arkapow, who dazzled everyone in Kurzel's adaptation of William Shakespeare
iconic play, and the first season of True Detective, is also on board for the
video game inspired movie.
Through a
revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch
(Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in
15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious
secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to
take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.
