National Board of Review Names Mad Max: Fury Best Movie Of The Year & Sylvester Stallone Best Supporting Actor

The award season is officially open!

The National Board of Review has released their picks for the best achievements in film this year, and while they don't always translate to other more "prestigious" ceremonies that come out later in the season, they still are a part of the statuette barometer.

And without further ado here are their choices.

Best Actor:  Matt Damon – The Martian
Best Actress: Brie Larson – Room

NBR Freedom of Expression Award:  Beasts of No Nation & Mustang

I've got to be honest, there are one or two surprises, but perhaps the biggest of them all is also the first award on the list. Mad Max: Fury Road was an outstanding popcorn movie, with eye-popping visuals, and great story sprinkled with the occasional socially relevant moment, but should it have won Best Film? Probably not. I feel that Mad Max is more of a best director than best film type of situation, but things tend to be subjective, so to each his own.

As for Stallone, no it isn't a fluke, and I have a feeling this will be the beginning of an awards campaign for the actor.

What do you think?
