It would seem
that Katherine Waterston is replacing Noomi Rapace as the lead in Ridley
Scott's Prometheus franchise.
According to
The Wrap, Waterston has landed the female lead role in the upcoming Prometheus
sequel, Alien: Covenant, where she will reunite with Michael Fassbender, whom
she worked with on Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs.
The actress
will play a character named Daniels, the same role Mission: Impossible - Rogue
Nation's Rebecca Ferguson was rumored to be up for.
Waterston is
a rising star, with plenty of supporting roles in prominent movies such as Tony
Gilroy's Michael Clayton, Jake Schreier's Robot & Frank, Paul Thomas
Anderson's Inherent Vice, and most recently David Yates' Fantastic Beasts and
Where to Find Them, so it's not inconceivable that she could replace Rapace,
whose name has been omitted from all discussions about the movie thus far.
Bound for a remote
planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant
discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark,
dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael
Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
