Disney has tapped Academy
Award winning screenwriter Philippa Boyens (The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit) to
pen the upcoming adaptation of The Lost Years of Merlin, the first in the eleven-book
The Merlin Saga written by T.A. Barron.
A raging sea tosses a
boy upon the shores of ancient Wales. Left for dead, he has no memory, no name,
and no home. But it is his determination to find out who he is—to learn the
truth about his mysterious powers—that leads him to a strange and enchanted
land. And it is there he discovers that the fate of this land and his personal
quest are strangely entwined.
The project couldn't
have come at a better time for the screenwriter who so far has only worked with
Peter Jackson and whose last project was The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five
Armies. For Disney getting Boyens is great since she has experience in building
fantasy franchises.
Besides the world of
Tolkien, Boyens' other credits include Peter Jackson's King Kong and The Lovely
Bones.
