Josh Friedman
(Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) has become attached to write the
upcoming TV adaptation of Bong Joon-ho's Snowpiercer for Marty Adelstein's Tomorrow
Studios.
The series
will be based on Joon-ho's 2013 film, which in turn was adapted from Jean-Marc Rochette, Jacques Lob, and
Benjamin Legrand's Le Transperceneige graphic novel.
Snowpiercer
was set in a post-apocalyptic ice age where what is left of mankind survives
aboard a train that runs on a track wrapped around the world and that never
stops. The film was Joon-ho's first film in English, and it starred Chris
Evans, Ed Harris, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, Alison Pill, Ewan
Bremner, Kang-ho Song, and Ah-sung Ko.
"We are very
excited to be working with Josh on this incredible story," Adelstein said.
"As such a prolific and innovative writer he is the ideal person to create
a massive new world in this adaptation. This is an expansive, high-concept
project and we are thrilled to be a part of reimagining it for
television."
Friedman's other TV credits include the aborted Locke & Key, Crossbones, and the upcoming Emerald City.
"I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity," Friedman said. "Marty and Becky are the perfect partners to help me bring this world to TV. I’m a huge fan of director Bong’s films, especially Snowpiercer. It’s great the way the best sci-fi is great — thoughtful, political, funny, scary and sly. And it’s on a train. A big f—ing train. What more could you want?"
As for Bong Joon-ho, Netflix and Brad Pitt's production company, Plan B, recently announced that they would be backing his second English spoken movie, Okja.
