Far from the failure many assumed it would be following Edgar Wright's
departure from the project due to creative differences, Marvel's Ant-Man proved
itself to be an entertaining box-office hit, grossing thus far just under $520
million worldwide.
Without forgetting Peyton Reed, who didn't shy away from the challenging
task of replacing someone dear to fans hearts, part of Ant-Man's success can be
attributed to Paul Rudd and Adam McKay, whom reworked the script in record time.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, McKay indicated that he wouldn't mind
doing more work for Marvel since he had so much fun with Ant-Man, perhaps even
writing the already announced sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp.
I was talking to
[Paul] Rudd about it the other day. We’ll see what happens, but that would
certainly be fun. I loved working with Marvel. And I have a couple of projects
in development. One of them is more dramatic, one’s more comedy, still with a
little bit of political teeth to it. And there’s a TV show idea I’ve been
kicking around.
I don't think anyone
would oppose to McKay's return, especially if it meant he would reteam with
Rudd to write the script and possibly Reed, who is in talks to return as well.
Ant-Man and the Wasp
has been scheduled to open on July 6, 2018.
