The American remake of one of the greatest action films in recent memory
has stalled. According to The Tracking Board's sources, director Patrick
Hughes, who directed one of the lesser action movies in memory, The Expendables
3, has dropped out of the project. Furthermore, and to complicate things, it
seems that Screen Gems is also no longer attached to the project, making XYZ
Films the only production company currently working on remaking director Gareth
Evans' fantastic survival action movie.
The site doesn't have the specifics, but according to them delays forced Hughes
to move on to direct the disaster drama The Storm Warning.
Brad Ingelsby (Run All Night), Eric and John Hueber (Red), and Evans
himself have all poured their collective knowledge to the script by penning
multiple drafts.
Frank Grillo was attached to star, and though his role was never confirmed, chances are that he could have played the most badass SWAT
member ever, who must survive being trapped in a building with a drug lord, his
army, and a couple of high-ranking gang members including his brother. Taylor
Kitsch was in talks to join, but has since departure. As for Grillo, his status
is unknown.
