20th Century Fox has released
the first clip for The Martian, an adaptation directed by Ridley Scott and penned
by Drew Goddard of Andy Weir's novel of the same name. The sci-fi drama stars
Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Michael Peña, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie,
and Kate Mara as a crew of astronauts on a mission to Mars. When a storm
of epic proportions hits and they are forced to abandon their mission and leave
the red planet. Among the confusion Damon's character, Mark Watney is presumed
dead and is left behind. Now, with only meager supplies, Watney must draw upon
his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that
he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international
scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates
concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission.
Opening on October 2, The
Martian also stars Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Donald Glover, and Jeff Daniels.
