Channing Tatum has been pursuing a biopic about American daredevil Evel
Knievel for some time, and yesterday some rumors started to spread claiming
that Darren Aronofsky was circling the project currently set up at Sony
Pictures.
Deadline has corroborated the rumors, and though they say that a deal is
not yet in place they confirm that negotiations are happening.
The project and the character seem to be right up Aronofsky's wheelhouse, in
the sense that his movies tend to be about people, whose passions turn to
addictions, like in Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan, or Noah. So
in a way he isn't stretching himself too much, but who can pass on a Darren
Aronofsky film.
As for Tatum, my opinion on him has changed considerably over the years. Between
The Eagle, Side Effects, 21 and 22 Jump Street, and Foxcatcher, Tatum has
proven himself to be a more than a capable actor, and I would be interested in
seeing how he and Aronofsky would work together.
