The Usual Suspects and X-Men franchise director Bryan Singer has announced via his official Instagram account that his next project after he finishes X-Men: Apocalypse will be an adaptation of Jules Verne's iconic sci-fi book, 20,000 Leagues Under Sea. Directors like McG and David Fincher have tried in the not so distant past to adapt Verne's classic tale to the big screen but to no fruition.
Singer's take on the 1870 material was done in conjunction with stunt coordinator Rick
Sordelet, and Dan Studney, whose last writing
credit was on Singer's Jack the Giant Slayer.
Professor Aronnax,
his faithful servant, Conseil, and the Canadian harpooner, Ned Land, begin an
extremely hazardous voyage to rid the seas of a little-known and terrifying sea
monster. However, the “monster” turns out to be a giant submarine, commanded by
the mysterious Captain Nemo, by whom they are soon held captive. So begins not
only one of the great adventure classics by Jules Verne, the ‘Father of Science
Fiction’, but also a truly fantastic voyage from the lost city of Atlantis to
the South Pole.
