In the road to Star
Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams has been surprisingly open or as open
as he can be without spoiling. He has talked about and teased The Force Awakens
a variety of times, but his in-depth interview to Empire Magazine has opened
the doors to a big conversation amongst fans about where the franchise will go now
that all these new elements and characters are being introduced to the
franchise.
One of the recent
points of conversation has been Adam Driver's character, Kylo Ren. Abrams
already teased that Ren is not his real name, and that his obsession with Darth
Vader led him to "mimic" the dark lord's mask. Having said that, he "is
not a Sith" says Abrams. "[Kylo Ren] works
under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the
Force." Snoke is a performance-captured character voiced and played by none
other than the great Andy Serkis, who seems to be filling in the gap left by
the Emperor.
Abrams
also spoke of the First Order, and compared it to the Nazis that led to
Argentina at the end of World War II.
You can read the full
interview with Empire when the issue comes out this Thursday, August 27.
Star Wars: The Force
Awakens opens on December 18.
