It's not
every day that you announce that a fantasy mockumentary is getting a sequel,
but apparently that's exactly what is going to happen to Jemaine Clement
(Flight of the Conchords) and Oscar nominated director Taika Waititi's What We
Do In The Shadows. The hilarious and outstanding comedy about a group of
centuries-old vampires living their "normal" lives in Wellington, New
Zealand, was one of last year's best comedies, and a personal favorite.
Speaking to
Stuff.co.nz, Clement confirmed that a sequel is being developed and that it
will focus on Anton the werewolf played by Rhys Darby.
Although
comedy sequels usually fall short of their predecessors, the idea of revisiting
that world is intriguing enough that I would take another bite of that apple.
Moreover, it makes sense from a business standpoint. What We Do In The Shadows
grossed $6.2 millions worldwide on a $1.6 million production budget and somewhat limited release.
