Fans clamored for it, and Lucasfilms responded. On May
25, 2018, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller will deliver a Star Wars Anthology movie written
by Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon Kasdan, centered on a young Han Solo that
will show how he "became the
smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first
encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley."
The question now is, how
young is Lucasfilm aiming Han to be? Well, speaking to Entertainment Weekly,
Lucasfilm President and producer Kathleen Kennedy approximately revealed the
character's age saying, "he’ll
definitely be probably in the high teens, low 20s," she said. "We’re
not introducing you to a 10-year-old Han Solo," i.e. not another Anakin Skywalker (Jake
Lloyd) in Episode I type of situation again.
As for how deep they are going into the character origin,
Kennedy thinks "the key here is that we are
identifying an event or events in Han Solo’s life that gives you some idea of
who he is and why he is the character we have all known to love."
In regards to the script, which is
still being written, EW says that we should expect something along the lines of
an adventure comedy, while Kennedy adds, "Han Solo is the character inside
Star Wars that everybody knows has a wit and sense of humor. So that’s what
this should be."
Furthermore, it seems that we could end
up seeing a variety of known supporting characters like Chewie, Lando, Jabba, or
Greedo, and even characters from the comics like Han's estranged wife, Sana
Solo.
Personally, since they are going to
tell the story of how Han became a smuggler, I think both Jabba and Boba Fett will
be reintroduced into the franchise. As for everyone's favorite walking carpet, Chewie, I
think he will either become Han's buddy throughout the course of the movie, or the
two will meet at the end of it.
What do you think, and who would you
cast now knowing what the character's age will be?
