Ben Kingsley On Finding The Voice Of Bagheera For The Jungle Book

In the 1894 The Jungle Book, Rudyard Kipling described Bagheera, the Black Panther's voice as "soft as wild honey dripping from a tree", but for Jon Favreau's upcoming film adaptation, Sir. Ben Kingsley has come up with his own take on the character's voice, which sounds like it will be quite different from Sebastian Cabot's voice work in the 1967 Disney animated film

"I offered an Indian accent to Jon for my Bagheera, and we debated it, and then we thought, ‘No — actually, it’s more British,’ and then I leaned towards a military Brit to have authority, discipline, command, and then underneath that of course, tremendous loyalty and affection."

Opening on April 15, 2016, The Jungle Book also stars Neel Sethi (Mowgli), Scarlett Johansson (Kaa), Bill Murray (Baloo), Christopher Walken (King Louie), Lupita Nyong'o (Rakcha), Idris Elba (Shere Khan), Giancarlo Esposito (Akela), and Emjay Anthony (Gray).
