Instead of being a momentous occasion, the unveiling
of Oscar Isaac as the titular villain in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse
turned into fan bantering about his look, with comparisons even being made to
the villain of the 1995 Power Rangers movie.
Speaking to Entertainment
Weekly, Isaac revealed that they "had
to do some adjustments here and there and be like, all right, maybe this is too
alien. He also is someone who people would want to follow and not just be
terrified of," the actor explained before adding that "making sure
that there's some great elements from the comic but also making our own thing
as well" is important, he said. "In the comic, he generally is like
12 feet, 600 pounds." And he should know since as a kid he
read and collected comics among which was Apocalypse's debut. "I grew
up reading the comics, and I actually collected X-Factor when
I was younger, when Apocalypse first showed up. I was particularly freaked out
with like the second coming and the end of the world, the apocalypse, so when
there was a character that embodied that; and even from Sunday school, I
remember the four horsemen and all that kind of imagery."
As for how said imagery will play out on the big
screen, Isaac teased "that last battle is
going to be pretty insane. I mean, it's like freaking Apocalypse fighting all
of the X-Men. It's pretty cool."
X-Men: Apocalypse premieres on May
27, 2016.
