Disney XD has
announced that the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series will officially
premiere on September 26 following a special sneak peek on September 5.
The animated series
will follow the same characters featured in James Gunn live-action film, and
though the cast isn't the same, the studio tried to get talent that sounded as
close as possible.
"We definitely went for—I’m making up a term
here—‘feel-alikes,’" told Marvel Animation Studios Vice-President Stephen
Wacker to TV Insider. "Will Friedle has the spirit that Chris
Pratt brought to Star-Lord."
Focusing on a "treasure hunt" related to
Star-Lord's past, the animated series will also include appearances by Thanos,
Thor, Loki, the Grandmaster, the Inhumans, and Cosmo, who will have a bigger
role than the one Gunn gave him in the feature film.
The animated series
also stars James Arnold Taylor as Yondu Udonta, Vanessa Marshall as Gamora, David Sobolov as Drax, Kevin Michael
Richardson as Groot, and Trevor Devall as Rocket Raccoon.
