Out of all the upcoming
superheroes movies, Josh Trank's Fantastic Four has been one the least
polarizing I have seen in awhile, with some if not most fans, angry at some of
the choices the director has made. From tone to casting, plenty of people have
marked the reboot for failure, and while I'm still holding a candle for the
film, the recent announcement that the 3D conversion had been tossed to the
side may be cause for some concern.
Fans feelings towards
the film were somewhat represented by the lukewarm reception Trank's and Fantastic
Four screenwriter and stars Simon Kinberg, Michel B. Jordan, Jamie Bell, Miles
Teller, Kate Mara, and Toby Kebbel got when they set foot on the Hall H panel
for the film.
- Chris Hardwick was
on hand to moderate the panel, and he started things off by asking the director
what was it that made him decide to tackle the Fantastic Four as his first
major Hollywood movie. The director replied by first saying that his love for
the characters came from the "Marvel Encyclopedias, and the cartoons"
because he used his allowance to go to Blockbuster. Director continued by
saying that he wanted to explore the same subject matter and themes as in his
previous film Chronicle, but on a bigger stage.
- As for the tone of
the film, Kinberg revealed that the script was "more science than science
fiction."
- In preparing to
play Reed Richards, Teller reveals that the director sent him a Quantum Physics
for Dummies book.
- As for his
character, Jordan revealed that he wanted to make sure he "respected the
legacy" of the Human Torch, and added that he was "living out a
childhood dream."
- Bell also spoke of
The Thing, and said that he's "the heart of the group."
- Regarding the villain,
Kebbel revealed that Dr. Doom is "the best villain ever", and that it
was important for him to keep the character relatable.
