While some actors get
in, do their jobs, and get out, others like to stay in character. Daniel
Day-Lewis refused to leave his character's wheelchair in My Left Foot, which
caused him to break two ribs. Joaquin Phoenix asked the cast and crew to call
him JR, Johnny Cash's real name during the shooting of Walk the Line, and now its
Jared Leto's turn to join the ranks of actors that go above-and-beyond of what is asked of them.
While at the red
carpet premiere of Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser, Adam Beach, who plays Slipknot
in Suicide Squad, revealed that Leto, or should I say Joker, has sent some
disturbing gifts to fellow co-stars.
"He sent
[Margot Robbie] a nice love letter with a black box with a rat in it—a live
rat," the actor revealed to EOnline. "It was beautiful. Then he sent bullets to Will
[Smith] with a letter."
The
award-winning actor also sent a video to the entire cast with a dead hog where
he basically said, "Guys, I can't be there but I want you to know I'm
doing my work as hard as you guys. The video he showed
is in character. It blew our minds away. Then we realized that day, this is
real."
Beach was also asked
about the first time seeing Leto as The Joker, and he said "he encompasses this beautiful man and he shows
it in, 'Hello, how are you?,' but in an instant, he goes to psychotic behavior
where you're in fear," Beach recalled. "But you love him because he
has both of those genuine sides."
David
Ayer's Suicide Squad opens on August 5, 2016.
