Before director Josh Trank's
new take on Fantastic Four lands in theaters, Fox has decided to pull the Fantastic
Four, and Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer from the iTunes and Amazon
platforms, "so as not to distract from promotion of the rebooted
franchise, which is seeking to establish a different tone than the previous
releases", sources told THR.
It is not surprising to hear that
Fox has removed the 2005 and 2007 films from the online platforms. Both films are to the property what
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is to the Indiana Jones
franchise, an embarrassment.
Regardless, it seems that it's
not that uncommon for studios to remove previous films while trying to bring
forward a new take on a known franchise, plus there is always the possibility
that those films could return after the new one comes out.
Trank's Fantastic Four opens
on August 7, and stars Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie
Bell in the lead roles.
