After a very promising directorial start with Pitch
Perfect 2, Elizabeth Banks is in talks for her next project. According to The
Hollywood Reporter, Banks and Universal Pictures are in talks for the director
to helm the adaptation of Victoria Aveyard's young-adult fantasy novel, Red
Queen.
The book takes place in a world divided by blood.
Those with Red blood are treated as commoners and serve, while those with the
rare Silver blood flowing through their veins are the elite and have superhuman
abilities. The story follows a 17-year-old girl, who despite being born with
red blood possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy
the Silvers control.
Described as a mix between The Hunger Games, X-Men,
Game of Thrones, and Cinderella, the project will be a major step-up for Banks,
who will have to deal not only with the intrinsic visual effects and
larger world, but also the pressure of starting what I'm assuming is the first
film of a planned franchise.
Writer Gennifer Hutchinson, whose credits include
Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, penned the script.
