With the FIFA scandal
still in its peak, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are set to produce an adaptation
of Ken Besinger's book, Houses of Deceit, which Warner Bros. just
acquired.
Seen as the "definitive
account" of American FIFA Executive Chuck Blazer's role in one of the
biggest corruption scandals in recent sport's history, the project will be
directed by Gavin O'Connor (Warrior), who will also co-write the adaptation
with Anthony Tambakis.
Known as "Mr.
Ten Percent" for the bribes he took, Blazer was one of the major forces
behind the sport's surge in popularity in the United States, as well as the
Vice-President of the U.S. Soccer Federation, and general manager of the
CONCACAF.
There are many twists
and turns to this story, but the main facts are that Blazer turned informant
after allegations of bribery and tax invasion surfaced. "Thanks" to
his knowledge of FIFA's institutionalized corruption, a few top executives were
arrested except for the president of the "non-profit" organization, Sepp
Blatter, who stepped down of his position, but not without first swearing he
didn't knew this was happening.
