The first trailer for
writer Steven Knight, and director Ed Zwick's upcoming film about chess prodigy
Bobby Fisher (Tobey Maguire), and The Match of the Century between him and USSR
champ Boris Spassky (Liev Schreiber) at the 1972 World Chess Championship has
landed online.
As an extremely
amateur chess player, I'm eager to see what the two masters, Knight (Locke) and Zwick
(The Last Samurai, Blood Diamond) have done with such a historic landmark not
only in chess but also in politics.
Pawn Sacrifice opens
in select theaters on September 18, and also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Robin
Weigert, Lily Rabe, and Michael Stuhlbarg.
In a gripping true
story set during the height of the Cold War, American chess prodigy Bobby
Fischer (Tobey Maguire) finds himself caught between two superpowers when he
challenges the Soviet Empire. Also starring Liev Schreiber and Peter Sarsgaard,
PAWN SACRIFICE chronicles Fischer’s terrifying struggles with genius and
madness, and the rise and fall of a kid from Brooklyn who captured the
imagination of the world.
