Warner Bros. has
announced that they are adding a new entry to their The Fugitive franchise,
which counts with the critically acclaimed and award winning The Fugitive (1993)
and its ugly cousin U.S. Marshals (1998).
It's unclear if the
team of U.S. Marshals led by Samuel Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones, who won the Oscar)
in both films will return in screenwriter Christina Hodson's (The Eden Project,
Shut In) script. It's also unclear if Harrison Ford will reprise his role from
the first film, but given that the second one starred Wesley Snipes as the
fugitive, I'm going out on a limb and say that this film's wrongfully accused convict
will be someone new.
The Fugitive is based
on a 1960's TV series that followed Dr. Richard Kimble (David Janssen), who
after being wrongfully accused of killing his wife, spends the entire show
evading the police while leaving clues about the actual murderer, a one-armed
man he said he struggled with at the time of the murder.
Production is expected
to begin in early 2016.
