Robert Rodriguez has
boarded Warner Bros. long gestating live-action adaptation of the classic
Hanna-Barbera cartoon series, Jonny Quest. Mask of Zorro, and Pirates of the
Caribbean writer Terry Rossio also joins the project, and both will rewrite the
script initially penned by Dan Mazeau (Wrath of the Titans).
Jonny Quest was a 1964 ABC primetime cartoon that followed the globe-spanning adventures
of a young boy named Jonny Quest, his father Dr. Quest, Hadji, a Kolkatan
orphan and Jonny's best friend, a government agent/bodyguard Race Bannon, and his
pet bulldog, Bandit.
In 2007 producers Dan Lin and Adrian Askarieh began
developing the project and by 2010 a film starring Zac Effron as Jonny Quest, and
Dwayne Johnson as Bannon was close to being greenlit by the studio.
