Marvel Studios continues to
tap into interesting filmmakers and writers to work on their shared cinematic
universe projects.
According to The Wrap, the
studio has approached Selma director Ava DuVernay to direct one of their "diverse"
films, i.e. Black Panther or Captain Marvel, with the former being the most likely
possibility.
Both parties have had
discussion and it seems there is a mutual interest in the filmmaker joining the
MCU.
Should DuVernay sign the
dotted line at the end of page and join Marvel, she will become the first
female director and the first African-American to direct a Marvel film.
The studio did hire Patty
Jenkins to direct Thor: The Dark World, but following creative differences the
director left the project and was replaced by Alan Taylor.
Black Panther will star
Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa the titular superhero and king of the fictional
African nation of Wakanda, while Captain Marvel will be penned by Nicole
Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out), and will focus
on Carol Danvers, who becomes one of the most powerful characters in the MCU (according
to Kevin Feige) after an encounter with the Kree Empire (according to the
comics).
Black Panther is due on July
2018, while Captain Marvel is scheduled for a November 2, 2018.
