It looks like The Last Samurai, and Blood Diamond
director Edward Zwick is in talks to co-write the upcoming Jack Reacher sequel, and hopefully direct it.
According to Deadline, Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz (The
Last Samurai and Love & Other Drugs) are in talks to rewrite Richard Wenk's
(The Equalizer) first draft of the Jack Reacher sequel.
The first film was written and directed by Christopher
McQuarry, and though entertaining it lacked heart, which made it difficult if
not impossible to care about any of the characters, on the flipside Zwick's
work has action and heart in spades, whether it be Glory, Legends of the Fall, Courage
Under Fire, Defiance, or Love & Other Drugs, making him ideal to tackle such a project.
The draft is based on author Lee Child's Never Go Back
book from the Reacher series, which sees a conspiracy involving old colleagues,
and love interests develop when Tom Cruise's titular character returns to his military
base in Virgina.
