It was just a matter of time until Riz Ahmed's name became attached to a
studio tentpole. After dazzling audiences with great performances in such
movies as Four Lions, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, and more recently Nightcrawler,
the up and coming actor is now being eyed to play a lead character in director
Gareth Edwards Star Wars spinoff, Rogue One.
Part of a new series of Star Wars films called Anthology, Rogue One takes
place in between Episodes III and IV, and will follow the theft of the plans of
the first Death Star by a group of Rebels.
According to Variety, Ahmed's chemistry with Felicity Jones was what ultimately
separated the actor from the rest of actors that last month met with the
director, and executives.
Ben Mendelsohn is rumored to be up for a role in the film, but nothing has
been announced.
Rogue
One starts filming this Summer, and will be released on December of 2016.
