Scarlett Johansson's upcoming action leading vehicle, Ghost in the Shell
had its release date moved two weeks up from April 14, 2017 to March 31 of the
same year.
The move is most likely an attempt to avoid Furious 8, which will open on
April 14.
Created by Masamune Shirow, Ghost in the Shell follows
a team from the Japanese Ministry of Home Affairs called Section 9, which specializes in
fighting technology-related crimes, and cyber-criminals. Responding to Chief
Daisuke Aramaki, the team is led by Major Kusanagi, who is tasked to
investigate a series of crimes perpetrated by a Puppeteer, who hacks humans
with cyberbrains and makes them do his bidding. The rest of the team's
operatives are Batou, Togusa, Ishikawa, Saito, Paz, Borma, and Azuma.
Snow White and The Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders is
on board to direct the Bill Wheeler script. Avi Arad and Steven Paul will
produce with Dreamworks and Steven Spielberg overseeing the adaptation.
