Kaijus aside, we
haven't had a good classic monster film in awhile. The last couple of attempts,
Dracula Untold, and I Frankenstein were disappointing, though if had to rate
them I Frankenstein's sparkly take on the material would certainly come last,
and that's the reason I'm really excited to see what Candyman director Bernard
Rose will do with Mary Shelley classic sci-fi horror Frankenstein.
Frankenstein is set in present day Los Angeles and told entirely from the perspective of the Monster. After he is artificially created, then left for dead by a husband-and-wife team of eccentric scientists, Adam is confronted with nothing but aggression and violence from the world around him. This perfect creation-turned disfigured monster must come to grips with the horrific nature of humanity.
Rose's take on the story stars Xavier Samuel as Adam, and Carey-Ann Moss and Danny Houston as the eccentric scientists couple.
Currently the film doesn't have a release date, but it will premiere at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival.
