When Disney first announced that J.J. Abrams had been
picked to direct Star Wars: Episode VII, later titled The Force Awakens, many
thought that the director was also going to direct the subsequent two episodes.
Well, we were betrayed by our thoughts, and Looper director Rian Johnson was eventually
announced has the writer and director of the follow-up, Episode VIII.
Now however, it seems
that because Disney is so pleased with what he was able to achieve with The
Force Awakens, they want him back to helm the yet untitled Episode IX.
For now this is all
speculation but according to the
Latino Review, Disney has held several discussions about Episode XI, and Abrams
name keeps coming up, despite some rumored creative differences.
Star Wars: Episode IX opens in 2019.
