Before the promotion of
Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron takes a good chunk out of his year, Andy
Serkis officially kicks-off his feature directorial debut with his long gestating
adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book.
Jon Favreau is also
doing an adaptation of the classic novel but for Disney while Serkis, who
between the final entry of The Hobbit and Avengers: Age of Ultron has had
little to no time to work on his vision for Warner Bros.
Serkis counts with an outstanding ensemble to bring his version of Kipling's novel to the big screen. Benedict Cumberbatch will star as Shere Khan, Cata Blanchett as
Kaa, Christian Bale as Bagheera, Serkis himself as Baloo, Peter Mullen as
Akela, Tom Hollander as Tabaqui, Naomi Harris as Nisha, Eddie Marsan as Vihaan,
Jack Reynor as Mowgli's Brother Wolf, and Roahn Chand Mowgli.
The story follows the
upbringing of the human child Mowgli, raised by a wolf pack in the jungles of
India. As he learns the often harsh rules of the jungle, under the tutelage of
a bear named Baloo and a panther named Bagheera, Mowgli becomes accepted by the
animals of the jungle as one of their own. All but one: the fearsome tiger
Shere Khan. But there may be greater dangers lurking in the jungle, as Mowgli
comes face to face with his human origins.
I'm excited to see
how the two version will come out and how much will they differ.
