We reported a couple of days ago that author
Chuck Wendig (Blackbirds, Under the Empyrean Sky) was going to write one of the
20 plus novels in the upcoming Journey To Star Wars: The Force Awakens series.
Intended to close the gap between Richard Marquand's Star Wars: Return of the
Jedi and J.J. Abrams Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the series is scheduled to start
being published in the fall just before the premiere of Abrams' entry in the
franchise.
We already knew that Wendig's novel was going
to be called Star Wars: Aftermath, but now some new details and the official
cover have come out. It seems Aftermath will be the first Journey To novel to
come out, and will be part of a trilogy "that begins to bridge the Star
Wars timeline between Return of Jedi and The Force Awakens. There is so much
unknown between the Battle of Endor and the events of The Force Awakens, and
we're excited to take our first step into that space."
Star Wars fans that have read the EU know
what happened after the Battle of Endor thanks to Timothy Zahn's Thrawn
Trilogy, and Kathy Tyers' The Truce of Bakura, but since they aren't officially cannon, I'm curious to see where this new official canon will take us.
The second Death Star
is destroyed. The Emperor and his powerful enforcer, Darth Vader, are rumored
to be dead. The Galactic Empire is in chaos.
Across the galaxy, some systems celebrate, while in others Imperial factions tighten their grip. Optimism and fear reign side by side.
And while the Rebel Alliance engages the fractured forces of the Empire, a lone Rebel scout uncovers a secret Imperial meeting…
