In 2009 fashion designer Tom
Ford wowed the world with his outstanding directorial debut, A Single Man,
which garnered multiple award nominations, and a few wins. Now, sometime has
passed and the director has decided that for his next cinematic endeavor he
wants to adapt author Austin Wright's book, Tony and Susan.
Re-titled Nocturnal Animals,
the film follows two narratives. One centers on a woman called Susan, who
receives a book manuscript titled Nocturnal Animals from the ex-husband she had
left 20 years earlier, asking her to give her opinion on the book. The second follows
the story of the book itself, which is about a man whose family vacation turns
grim. As both stories develop they begin to intertwine and Susan finds herself
recalling her first marriage and confronting some darker truths about herself.
According to The Hollywood
Reporter, Amy Adams is in talks to play Susan, while Jake Gyllenhaal is already
attached to star as the male lead. The outlet also says that Joaquin Phoenix
and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are also being looked at to play leading roles.
I've been eager to see what
Ford would do next ever since his stylish directorial debut, and this project seems
like a right fit.
