It was announced last year
that Jim Starlin's sci-fi comic series Dreadstar was in the process of being
adapted to the big screen by Benderspink and
Illuminati Entertainment, whom had acquired the rights. Now however
plans seem to have changed and Starlin's series seem to be going to the small
screen instead.
According to
The Hollywood Reporter Starlin is teaming up with Benderspink and universal
Cable Productions to adapt Dreadstar as a scripted tv series to be penned by
Starlin himself, who will also executive produce alongside Ford Gilmore.
"I consider Dreadstar tobe
an extension of my family, so it took me a while to feel comfortable letting
anyone else take care of this project," said Starlin. The creator also
added, "It has taken some time, but I know I've put my trust
in the right team and I'm excited to collaborate with Universal Cable
Productions and Benderspink to bring Dreadstar's unique brand of
chaos to television."
The over sixty issues series followed Vanth Dreadstar, the lone survivor of
the Milky Way Galaxy, who together with his crew of misfits (Syzygy, Darklock,
Willow and Oedi), is caught in the middle of an ancient old war between two
powerful empires.
