Despite looking
stagnate, the behind-the-scenes of the Sony Spider-Man project have never been
more active. Following the initial report that Spider-Man was going to traverse
studios and appear in a Marvel film, an authentic downpour of reports ensued.
From producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach being downgraded to executive
producers with no creative input, to the planned Venom, and Sinister Six
spinoffs moving forward.
Variety now reports
that the plan for Spider-Man is to put him back in Midtown High School, and
spend more time developing his relationships with other students, "while
fighting crime out of the classroom".
They also say that although
no actors have yet been approached for the role, they hear that Dylan O'Brien (The
Maze Runner, Teen Wolf), and Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson, Fury) are being
considered to play the part. The reason for not approaching an actor just yet
seems to be that the studio is keen on finding a director first before starting
negotiations.
Furthermore, it looks
like Sony has yet to decide if they go with Peter Parker or another Spider-Man like Miles Morales, in which case both O'Brien, and Lerman are out since
Morales' father is African American, and his mother is Puerto Rican.
For now this should
be considered a rumor, as I'm sure things are still very much in the early
stages.
