If the secrecy behind
the casting for director Gareth Edwards Star Wars spinoff is in any shape-or-form
close to the one J.J. Abrams did for Star Wars: The Force Awakens then we are
still a long way away from finding out for sure who was cast and who didn't, however
according to The Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm, and Disney have narrowed down
their search for the female lead in the first spinoff.
According to them, Oscar
nominee Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) is now leading the shortlist
of actresses up for the role, which also included Rooney Mara, Kate Mara, and
Tatiana Maslany, who was at one point at the top of the list.
Take it with the
usual grain of salt, but they also claim that Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), and Édgar
Ramirez (Deliver Us from Evil) are leading the list for the male lead role.
Gareth Edwards' Star
Wars spinoff hits theaters on December 16, 2016.
