Director
J.J. Abrams Star Wars: The Force Awakens mystery box has only been officially lifted
a couple of times, one with the teaser and the second one with the release of
some faux collectible cards of the characters, including one Kylo and his distinctive
cross guard lighsaber.
In a New
Yorker profiler piece, Apple designer Jony Ive (iPhone, Pad, and iOS 7)
revealed that he was approached by director J.J. Abrams to consult on the
design of the new lightsaber. "It was just a conversation," he said.
Ive also revealed that while the cross guard idea didn't come from him, he did
suggest that there should be an roughness to the design. "I thought it
would be interesting if it were less precise, and just a little bit more spitty," he
said adding that the weapon should be "more analog and more primitive, and
I think, in that way, somehow more ominous."
What
do you think of this approach?
